Day 27 – It Doesn’t Seem Like Work, It’s Actually Fun

Today I deviated from my normal Saturday routine.  I did this for a couple of reasons.

First, I woke up with a pounding headache & the thought of bodyweight circuits did not sound appealing.  After 15 minutes I felt a bit better so I decided that I could still get some work in this morning.

The other reason I changed things up is that I am entering a new phase of my 13 week program on Monday.  I will be incorporating a few new exercises in this phase.  I decided to use part of my time in the weight room to establish my starting weight loads for these exercises.

After working through these exercises, I then got in a good upper body Antagonistic Superset session.  Nothing major but I did set a new personal best in the Lumberjack Barbell Press.  It was only 5 pounds but it was a sign of progress.

After my workout, I got cleaned up & had my morning smoothie.  Once again, I changed things up a bit only because I pushed a bit harder & longer than I expected this morning. This morning I mixed the following in my blender:

  • 1 1/2 Scoops Optimum Nutrition 100% Natural Whey Protein Powder (Chocolate)
  • 1 Cup Oatmeal
  • 1 Banana
  • A few dashed of Cinnamon
  • 1 C Milk
  • 1 C Ice

Normally I use water but this morning I desired a milkshake, sans ice cream.  So, I used ice & milk instead.  This is about a 2:1 Carb to Protein mix.  Many fitness authors that I follow have mentioned this 2:1 ratio as being idea for recovery purposes.  This fit in well for my post-workout nutrition needs.

After that, I created a Facebook page & Twitter account for my newest endeavor, JGoldenFitness.com.  Right now, that website is currently directed to this blog.  Maybe it always will be.  Or maybe that domain name ends up being directed towards a totally different website I eventually create.  The thing that was important to me was to protect that domain name & get it registered.  Why let someone swoop in & take it?

The rest of my day will consist of getting my workout logs for the next 4 weeks in order, designing meal plans & writing a grocery list.  Although my weigh in is tomorrow morning, I know that I will be eating the same foods I did in the past month.  The quantities will most likely increase so we’ll grab a little bit extra.  No big deal.

I also have to complete a set of workouts for a friend & get those sent via email soon.  That way, there is a chance to have a question/answer session prior to her attempting the workouts.

Being a resource for others is very rewarding.  It’s why I take the time to answer every single fitness questions I am asked.  If I am unable to come up with an answer immediately, I research it & get them the answer as soon as I am able.  I offer encouragement to others out there who are pursuing their fitness goals.  Give of yourself and experience the rewards!

I’ve been busy for having a day off from work but it really hasn’t bothered me.  While I have put forth a great amount of effort & still have more to do, it hasn’t felt like work.  I have enjoyed it all.

It may take me awhile but I am convinced now, more than ever, of the certainty that I will achieve my “life” goal of helping as many people as possible achieve their fitness goals.

When I say “life” goal, I mean a goal that I can pursue my entire life.  Even when I am too old to lift heavy weights, I can still pass on my knowledge of weight lifting.  So this is an achievable goal that is perpetual.  It expires when I do.

My life goal is my purpose.  It will direct my actions & be the basis for the majority of my short & long-term goals.  Things like: Gain 5 pounds of muscle, Bench press X amount of pounds & so forth.  A lifetime of achieving these goals will lead to achieving my ultimate goal.

What’s your “life” goal?  Have you defined your purpose?
